PINOT NOIR, CHARDONNAY, RIESLING. Given the regional characteristics, the sub-region and Flat Rock’s physical location (terrior), these are the three varietals we focus on to consistently deliver high quality wines.

The place.

Where extraordinary happens. Our passion, and indeed our mission, is to craft wines of uncompromising quality that convey the characteristics inherent to our place: flavours, textures and aromas that can only be ours.

We enter each harvest with the goal of expressing that vintage’s story and to convey the purity, complexity and potential of our exceptional site.

Our winemaking begins in the vineyard with careful and thoughtful vineyard management throughout the year. Upon achieving optimal balance in the fruit, our dozens of unique vineyard blocks are hand-picked, hand-sorted and begin their transformation through our state-of-the-art gravity flow winery.

A portfolio of French oak barrels is used to achieve optimal texture, layers of complexity and integration with our wines.

Flat Rock Cellars in Alberta

  • Flat Rock Cellars
    Twisted White ‘Niagara Peninsula’

This spritzy gem makes a great patio wine. Traditional grapes with a twist. Twisted is a premium off-beat blend of 75% Riesling, 15% Gewürztraminer and 10% Chardonnay. It shows vivid grapefruit, ginger, lime, herbs, nuts and stony minerality.

  • Flat Rock Cellars
    Pink Twisted ‘Niagara Peninsula’

“This is an off-dry rosé comprised of 90% Gamay and 10% Merlot. Violets and dried flower aromas exude from the glass and hover above a smokey red cherry and cranberry underlay. A crisp, mineral driven palate brings baked red fruit in the core with some dried sage around the edges. Lovely structure and a long finish.” 91-pts. - Leah Spooner Wine Review

  • Flat Rock Cellars
    Red Twisted ‘Niagara Peninsula’

A rather unique (or shall we say Twisted) blend of Gamay (72%), Merlot (25%) & Pinot Noir (3%). Each component was aged separately in barrel before selecting the final blend through rigorous tasting trials. The rich textural elements of the Merlot marry the intense fruit flavours and aromas of the Gamay, while a dash of Pinot Noir takes it over the top. Judges Selection - 2024 Alberta Beverage Awards

  • Flat Rock Cellars
    Foundation Riesling ‘Niagara Peninsula’

This off-dry wine shows Riesling's bright acidity, notes of melon and stone fruit, a kiss of lime and limestone, chalky minerality on the palate. These are the signature characteristics from the single parcel within the West Vineyard from which the grapes originated.

  • Flat Rock Cellars
    Foundation Chardonnay ‘Niagara Peninsula’

This elegant signature Chardonnay is made in an approachable style that consistently delivers purity of fruit and a plush mouthfeel. No efforts are spared in the production of this wine. It is hand-picked, hand-sorted, barrel-fermented and aged in French oak barriques to add complexity to the finished product.

  • Flat Rock Cellars
    Foundation Pinot Noir ‘Niagara Peninsula’

Hand-picked, hand-sorted, small batch ferment, French oak barrels; no detail is spared when crafting our Pinot Noir. Fermented in small batches to preserve the distinct qualities of the individual parcels of vineyard, after ageing in French oak, the barrels come together in the summer blending sessions to create this intricate assemblage that is the Foundation Pinot Noir.

  • Flat Rock Cellars
Nadja’s Vineyard Riesling ‘Twenty Mile Bench’

Nadja’s Vineyard is our iconic Riesling and highlights the citrus and chalky notes that are typical of this vineyard. Hand-picked, whole cluster pressed, and a cool, slow fermentation provide a more pure expression. Fermentation is halted to balance out the racy acidity with some natural sweetness from the Riesling juice.

  • Flat Rock Cellars
Rusty Shed Chardonnay ‘Twenty Mile Bench’

Aged in a variety of French oak barrels, 17.1% of which were new. There is a nose of savoury notes to go with yellow apples, bergamot, baked pear, flint, and an array of barrel spices. Concentrated and rich on the palate, ripe stone fruits, saline and flinty minerality with lemon curd in a creamy textured style that’s bright and lifted on the long finish.

  • Flat Rock Cellars
Gravity Pinot Noir ‘Twenty Mile Bench’

100% estate Pinot Noir lots chosen for a flavour profile distinguished by bold fruit, depth of flavours and full textures on the palate. The resulting wine is a bold expression of what the Twenty Mile Bench can do with the right conditions. Looking forward to this wine for years to come.
