Featherstone Estate Winery
Featherstone farms naturally and without the use of insecticides, growing wine in a way that is sustainable. They encourage an environment that is healthy and completely unique and believe that this individuality translates into their wines.
The place.

Featherstone’s vineyard is on 23 acres of rolling hills on the prestigious upper Twenty Mile Bench along the Niagara Escarpment in the Twenty Valley wine region of Niagara.
The Riesling, planted in 1978, is some of the oldest Riesling in Niagara and the Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, planted in 1986, continue to thrive. Since 1999, the entire grape crop is bottled to produce Featherstone wines, with approximately 9,000 cases a year being vinified. The winery has distinguished itself in Niagara as being insecticide-free since 1999, practitioners of eco-friendly farming, and a SWO Certified Sustainable winery.
Featherstone was one of the first Ontario wineries to use Canadian oak barrels, producing an exceptional barrel-fermented Canadian Oak Chardonnay in 2002. Until recently, oak from Canada had not been considered for winemaking. The integration of our wine with oak grown in the same climate and region is an exciting concept. Encouraged by early successes, Canadian oak barrels at Featherstone continue to play an expanding role.

Black Sheep Riesling ‘Niagara Peninsula’Planted in 1978, Featherstone's Riesling vines are some of the oldest in Niagara. Sauvignon Blanc ‘Niagara Peninsula’Our Sauvignon Blanc is 20% barrel fermented in neutral Canadian oak barrels and 80% in stainless steel. "Dry with riesling-reminiscent notes of lime, ginger-peach and chalky mineral. Verging on tropical with starfruit and guava that contribute to a compelling flavour profile on the wine's light-to-mid-weight frame. A hint of pithy bitterness along with refreshing acidity add tension to the palate. Very good length and value. 90-pts. Sara d'Amato, WineAlign

Cabernet Franc ‘Niagara Peninsula’A blend of 95% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, aged 10 months in 100% American oak barrels (25% new and 75% into 1 to 4 year old barrels) stirred on lees monthly. "Exotic aromas of grilled savoury herbs and a touch of spice is apparent on the nose of this well-priced cabernet franc. It is smooth and mellow on the palate with flavours of cherry/berry fruit from twist top to last drop. There is a good underpinning of ripe tannin and plenty of tang and pizzazz." 92-pts.
